Begun in 1992, Fundacion Padre Arrupe‘s primary objective is to contribute towards the economic, human and social development of El Salvador, a country which suffers the consequences of recent civil war and the effects of the most devastating natural disasters, circumstances which combine to drive down the standard of living in some of the poorest areas of Central America to unsustainable levels.

Fundacion Padre Arrupe had its origin in a group of people responsive to the urgent needs of childhood and youth in Central America, people ready to foster human development through proper training, and this is central to the Foundation.

The core aims of the Foundation are in education and training:

• Assistance to build educational structures and to allow training as well as social, economic and cultural promotion in underdeveloped countries.
• Enhancement of social and educational work performed by other institutions.
• Social integration of children and youngsters through training and education.
• Strengthening of women’s training to increase their control of their own economic and social environment.
